Glen De Vries, Who Flew To Space With William Shatner, Dies In Small Plane Crash In New Jersey
HAMPTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBSNewYork) — A small plane bound for Sussex Airport in New Jersey crashed Thursday, killing two people, including a man who flew to space with William Shatner. State police identified the victims as Glen M. de Vries, 49, of New York City and Thomas P. Fischer, 54, of Hopatcong, New Jersey. De Vries was a member of the crew that made headlines last month when they flew to space with Jeff Bezos’ company Blue Origin. “Our thoughts and support go out to Glen’s family. Our deepest sympathy also goes out to our MEDIDATA team, which Glen co-founded. His tireless energy, empathy and pioneering spirit left their mark on everyone who knew him. We will truly miss Glen, but his dreams – which we share – live on: we will pursue progress in life sciences & healthcare as passionately as he did,” said a spokesperson from Dassault Systemes. The plane took off from Essex County Airport. Federal officials said they alerted public agencies about the missing aircraft shortly before 3 p.m. According to the FAA, the single-engine Cessna 172 crashed in a wooded area of a state park near Lake Kemah around 4 p.m. The FAA and NTSB are investigating. And when the most massive stars of all — which are many times heavier than the sun — do go through sudden and cataclysmic changes as they reach the ends of their lives, their passing is marked by the unmissable cosmic beacon of a supernova explosion, which shines for many months, and may even be visible across hundreds of millions of light-years.
But what if some stars suddenly just wink out of visibility? According to everything we know about stars, that should be impossible, but over the past few years, a group of astronomers has set out to see whether such impossible things do happen, comparing data across decades of observations.
"VASCO is the Vanishing and Appearing Sources during a Century of Observations project," said Beatriz Villarroel of the Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics, Sweden. "We're actually interested in all kinds of vanishing objects, but ideally I'd like to find a star that's been steady and has been there in the sky for as long as we can remember and as long as we have data for, and one day it just vanishes. And you can point the biggest telescopes in the world at it and still see nothing there."
Since Villarroel and her colleagues began work on the project in 2017, they've attracted a lot of attention from scientists who see the potential in searching historic records: "We have astronomers from all kinds of different fields interested in the project — specialists in active galactic nuclei [the power source of intensely brilliant quasars in the distant universe], stellar physicists, and SETI [Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence] scientists — everyone has their reasons for getting involved."
Although our current understanding suggests that stars change only very slowly, and dramatic disappearances should leave traces behind, that's not to say that all stars shine steadily. In fact, the sky is packed full of variable stars that pulsate and change in brightness. Villarroel emphasizes that VASCO is about something different. "We know that there are variables, but their timescales tend to be a few years at most. We want to find something that goes from a completely steady star to just vanishing entirely — this hasn't been documented, and it's the kind of discovery that could lead to new physics." Source

UAPs & UFOs Are Demons Of Our Lower Atmosphere: NASA Chief Bill Nelson Latest Official To Suggest UFOs Have Otherworldly Origins...
After speaking with several of the naval aviators who observed the unknown craft, NASA’s chief is convinced that the pilots “saw something, and their radars locked onto it.” Asked to speculate about the nature of the phenomena, Nelson – an Army veteran, former senator and ex-astronaut – responded, “Who am I to say that planet Earth is the only location of a life form that is civilized and organized like ours?”
As surprising as his answer may be, Nelson is only the latest high-level official to hint that UFOs may have otherworldly explanations. Asked in June about the military’s recent encounters with mysterious craft, former President Bill Clinton – like Nelson – responded by pondering the vastness of the universe and the high probability of life existing beyond Earth. Similarly, former President Obama speculated about the extraordinary implications if recent incidents involved otherworldly objects. Of note, Clinton and Obama retain access to top-level intelligence briefings.
But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Queried about the Navy’s encounters with UFOs, former CIA director John Brennan speculated that the objects might “constitute a different form of life.” Channeling Clinton, Obama and NASA’s Nelson, Brennan stated that “it’s a bit presumptuous and arrogant for us to believe that there’s no other form of life anywhere in the entire universe.”
In much the same vein, former CIA Director James Woolsey, a longtime UFO skeptic, recently signaled openness to the possibility that such encounters have otherworldly explanations.
John Ratcliffe, former President Trump’s director of national intelligence, is particularly vocal about UFOs.
In a series of interviews, Ratcliffe ruled out secret U.S. technology and cited “high confidence” intelligence assessments to eliminate foreign adversaries as possible explanations for the most compelling UFO encounters. According to the former head of U.S. intelligence, some UFOs exhibit “technologies that we don’t have and, frankly, that we are not capable of defending against.”
Like Ratcliffe, Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) ruled out foreign powers or highly classified American technology, leaving few explanations for the phenomena. Source
